Adventures of Motherhood

I am a harried mother of three kids who move at light speed and a husband who lives in a world of words. If that isn't enough, I teach in an elementary school as I slowly watch my hair turn gray.

A little boy turns 11.

I wrote this on Zach's birthday. I wanted to share it with you. Sometimes Zach suffers because he is the oldest and we expect more from him. But I always say, how does he know how to act like an 11 year old. There's nobody to show him. For Dahlia and Noah it will be easier because they will have Zach's experience. I love this child so much. He makes me laugh and his insight boggles my mind. He is a sensitive and insecure boy. Yesterday he told me that it was a good school day because nobody picked on him. My heart nearly broke in two. Here's what I wrote on his special day:

I don't know how it is possible. How can 11 years go by so quickly, too quickly. My sweet young man, Zachary, the little boy who made me a mother, turns 11 today.

My heart swelled with love as I looked at him this morning. He gave me that little smile (so like his father's) asking if he can open his present before Daddy came home. How mature he has become; just last year he would have been bugging us and crying that he could not wait another second to open it. He actually waited until 10:30 before he asked if we could call Daddy and ask him if it was okay.

Zachary is a sweet and loving boy who just wants somebody to play with him. He loves to watch TV, play on the computer, use his gameboy and build with lego. We bought him at 700 piece castle lego set for his birthday. He sat for about 2.5 hours and completed the entire thing by himself. He's creative and makes the most wonderful drawings. I like to think he gets that from me :-)!

Zach have a wonderful day and year to come. May all that you wish for when you blow out your candles come true for you.

Mommy and Daddy love you very much!

Ah, I feel your pain. My oldest is turning 11 in a couple of weeks. Beautiful sentiments. They remind me to look at all my kids' wonderful attributes and not just think about the annoyances. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Morah Mommy! I found your link on Carmi's page and thought I should stop by and say hi to Mrs. Carmi!

This was a really lovely post. Isn't it amazing how you live, breathe, cry and laugh along with your child. Sometimes I feel like the cord was never really cut. Motherhood is an amazing thing.

Greetings from Wisconsin!

Happy birthday momma's little boy. It sounds like you are turning into a fine young man.

You will always be the baby that made your mama a mother.

I'm bracing myself for when Oscar, our eldest, the one who made me a mother, turns 8 in a fortnight.

It strikes me that the eldest's birthday has a magnitude all of its own. Imperceptable to all except their parents. And that is something to be treasured.
